Primordial Prevention, the Missing Link in Implant Therapy

Dental implants replace missing teeth in at least 100 million people, yet over one million implants fail every year due to peri-implantitis, a bacterially induced inflammatory disease.

Our ability to treat peri-implantitis is hampered by a paucity of information on the impact of events that occur before, during and after implant surgery on the health of the implant.

In this presentation, we will investigate the systemic, environmental and local factors that can increase risk for peri-implant diseases, and discuss the importance of case selection in treatment planning.

Bone Allografts in Periodontal Regeneration: Past, Present, Future

The treatment of peri-implantitis has become a major challenge for many dentists who place implants.

We will discuss evidence-based strategies for management of complex implant-related biological complications in the aesthetic zone and other areas of the mouth.

Special emphasis will be placed on the impact of the morphology and severity of peri-implant bone defects on the outcome of reconstructive treatment.

Guided Bone Regeneration to Treat Severe Atrophies, What Is Changing

The use of Guided Bone Regeneration associated to non-autogenous scaffolds in combination to particulated autogenous bone grafts, constitutes the standard of care of bone augmentation in all alveolar defects with or without implants, including the most severe vertical deficiencies.

Choosing the correct therapeutic approach in the selected indications, with the appropriate biomaterials plays a crucial role in obtaining positive outcomes in advanced GBR procedures.

New digital technologies, including A.I. can now be implemented in everyday planning and execution of complex GBR procedures to increase predictability and reduce surgical time and patient’s morbidity.

Regenerative Approach for the Management of Peri-implantitis

This presentation will focus on the selection of regenerative approaches in the treatment of peri-implant defects. Open versus closed healing approaches using different graft materials and growth factors will be demonstrated. 

Surface decontamination is an essential part of the success of this therapy, and implant macro as well as micro design plays an important role in the success.  Non-confined, vertical defects around peri-implantitis involved implants are considered to be the most challenging.

This presentation will also discuss surgical approaches treating these demanding defects around implants. A decision tree of techniques selection based on defect type when treating peri-implantitis will be presented
